I am so very excited to announce that 15 years after I published my first periodic table poster, I have finally published a new one!

The Periodic Table of Tools is a companion to my new book Tools (scroll down), and they’re both every bit as lovely as my original periodic table of the elements poster and book.

You can buy the poster only from me, but all my books are available from Amazon or anywhere books are sold. I sell them too, but only in autographed form for way more than you can get regular copies (because it’s a hassle). If you just want the book, buy it from Amazon.

Periodic Table of Tools
$19.95

Created in the style of my world-famous periodic table of the elements, this 36” x 20” poster is sure to delight anyone who uses and enjoys tools. Never before has there been such a beautiful presentation of so many interesting tools, both usual and unusual, expected and unexpected alike.

The arrangement follows loosely the characteristic of the regular periodic table: tools with similar functions in each column, getting heavier as you move down the rows. The diagonal line between metals and non-metals on the right side becomes a line between drills and wrenches. The fiery 17th column, the halogens, is a column of tools that use heat, including soldering, welding, casting, and 3D printing.

If you know anyone who is at all handy, or just appreciates the beauty of mechanical things, I personally guarantee that they will love this poster.

Beautiful Periodic Table Posters
from $19.95

This iconic periodic table poster can be found in school, universities, homes, libraries, and even television shows (Hannah Montana, MythBusters, NUMB3RS, The Ellen Degeneres Show, etc). The 27" x 53" (68cm x 134cm) size is huge, laminated, and double-sided (the back side includes more data about each element, but a smaller photo). The 20" x 40" (50cm x 100cm) is closer to the size of a normal poster, and is only single-sided (but still laminated). All versions are printed in Pennsylvania on top-quality paper with high-resolution printing methods.

A two-pack of the large size is available at a special price in case you want to hang both sides facing out.

PLEASE NOTE: The 27" x 53" size has been updated to include all the most recently named elements. All elements from 1 to 118 now have final, approved names, so this is it, there will be no more changes to the standard periodic table. (The 20" x 40" size remains un-updated until we run out of stock, sorry.)

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

Tools is my loving tribute to all the tools I’ve used and all the tools I wish I had a better reason to own other than to photograph them for a book.

How Things Work (Autographed Copy)
$50.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

How Things Work: The Inner Live of Everyday Machines is my first book in a long time that isn’t about chemistry. As much as I like chemistry, my love of machines goes back just as far, to when I was growing up with mechanical things (and chemistry sets). As with all my books, this one is full of pictures (by Nick Mann) and stories about some of my favorite devices: Clocks, Locks, Scales, and everything to do with making cloth (the chapter in which I make a pot holder starting from cotton seeds).

The Elements (Autographed Copy)
$50.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

This is it: The best book about elements ever, and I'm not just saying that because I wrote it. I'm saying that because I wrote it and my ego is out of control. But seriously, this book has sold over a million copies in 23 languages, and has been downloaded even more than that in iPad App form. People like it. Your nephew who is into science will like it. Anyone who gets this book as a gift will think you're just the most amazing person for having found them such a lovely and unexpectedly delightful item. If you don't believe me, just check out my Amazon reviews: 275 five-star reviews as of this moment. Which I guess does raise the point that you can order this book from Amazon, or any other online bookseller, instead of buying it here. In fact, it's cheaper from anyone else, and you'll probably get it faster too. The only reason to buy it directly from me is if you want an autographed copy. (Especially for international orders you can probably get it much cheaper elsewhere.)

(For amusement, feel free to check out my three one-star reviews. Two of them complain that their paperback edition fell apart (I sell only the hardcover on my site), and one complains that I have a liberal agenda because apparently I said something about global warming.)

Molecules (Autographed Copy)
$50.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

Molecules is the sequel to the best-selling The Elements. It continues the story of chemistry by showing what happens when you link elements into molecules.

Like The Elements, Molecules is filled with big beautiful photographs (taken by my long-time collaborator Nick Mann, who took most of the photos in The Elements as well). And like The Elements, it's also filled with stories about the many objects shown. If you liked The Elements, you will definitely like Molecules!

Order here if you want an autographed copy directly from me. If you just want the book fast and cheap, you're probably better off ordering it from one of the online booksellers.

Reactions (Autographed Copy)
$50.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

Reactions: An Illustrated Exploration of Elements, Molecules, and Change in the Universe is the third and final installment in the trilogy of The Elements, Molecules, and Reactions. You start with Elements, put them together into Molecules, and then mix the molecules together to get Reactions. Together these three books cover the whole of chemistry in pictures and stories. And they look great together on a shelf. If you have any of the previous books, you should definitely get this one (and if you don't, then you should get this one and the previous ones).

Order here if you want an autographed copy directly from me. If you just want the book fast and cheap, you're probably better off ordering it from an online bookseller.

My First Elements (Autographed Copy)
$15.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

My First Elements is a “board book” of the sort meant for kids of at age when they are as likely to eat a book as read it. It’s got some simple rhymes and friendly pictures of an assortment of elements. I’m not going to say it’s a literary masterpiece, but as a first book of elements, it’s not bad. Are there even any other board books of the elements? You can get it cheaper from Amazon, but if you buy it from me you get an autographed copy!

ABC Elements (Autographed Copy) On Sale!
$15.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

ABC Elements is a “board book” of the sort meant for kids of at age when they are as likely to eat a book as read it. It is an alphabet-and-elements teaching book. For each letter of the alphabet, there’s an element and a picture. OK, there is no element for J: we “Jump over J” instead. And G is for Gold, not Gadolinium, because come on, this is a book for 2-year-olds. (Not to worry, I made sure the graphic design does not imply that G is the elemental symbol for gold, just that gold is a word that starts with G. Which it is.) You can get it cheaper from Amazon, but if you buy it from me you get an autographed copy!

Completely Mad Science (Autographed Copy)
$50.00

This listing is for an autographed copy: if you want a regular copy much cheaper and faster, you can order it from Amazon with this link.

Theodore Gray's Completely Mad Science, (autographed copy). This is a combined volume that includes everything from both Mad Science and Mad Science 2, plus new articles that don't appear in either of those books. This is the book you want to get if you want to learn about all kinds of things that you shouldn't do (plus a few that are fine even for kids). A stern warnings section tries to make clear which is which, warning about real dangers without knee-jerk over-warning just because vinegar is involved (as you so often see with this sort of book).

Order here if you want an autographed copy directly from me. If you just want the book fast and cheap, you're probably better off ordering it from an online bookseller.

My publisher wanted to create a follow-on book to The Elements sooner than I was able to produce one, so I ended up partnering with my friend Simon Quellen Field to produce this work. "Vault book" means it's got little envelopes and bits of real elements scattered in it. It's a nice book, but frankly, if you're only going to get one, get the original Elements book. The Vault book is available from bookstores and online retailers.
